POST readings from ESP32 and ESP8266 boards

Send ESPHome sensor data to an online dashboard

ESPHome devices can post their own readings to a web address with the http_request component. Point one at SensorConsole and your ESP32 or ESP8266 sensor appears on an online dashboard with history charts and silent-device alerts, with no Home Assistant needed in between. Smaller ESP8266 boards often struggle with HTTPS, and SensorConsole's sensor endpoint accepts plain HTTP too.

What you can monitor

How to connect ESPHome online

  1. Create a generic push device In SensorConsole, choose Connect a sensor, then DIY / generic push. Copy the token.
  2. Add http_request to your YAML Paste the snippet below, replacing YOUR_TOKEN and the sensor ids.
  3. Flash and watch Install the updated config; the first reading appears on the device page after the next interval.
# Add to your ESPHome device YAML
http_request:
  useragent: esphome/sensorconsole
  timeout: 10s

interval:
  - interval: 10min
    then:
      - http_request.post:
          url: https://sensorconsole.com/ingest-generic-push.php?token=YOUR_TOKEN
          headers:
            Content-Type: application/json
          json:
            temp_c: !lambda 'return id(my_temperature).state;'
            humidity: !lambda 'return id(my_humidity).state;'

# On an ESP8266 where HTTPS is too heavy, the same address works over plain http://

YOUR_TOKEN is the device token shown on your device page after you create a generic push device.

Use cases

Standalone sensors with no hub

A battery or mains node that reports on its own.

Garden and greenhouse nodes

Several ESP boards on one dashboard.

Questions about ESPHome and SensorConsole

How do I send ESPHome data to a website?

Use http_request.post in an interval block, as in the example above.

Does it work with ESP8266?

Yes. Use the plain http address of the sensor endpoint if HTTPS is too heavy for your board.

Do I need Home Assistant?

No.
